Can We Trust Even When Life Feels Scary?

I used to think that if I planned well enough, I could keep my life safe and steady. I thought being in control was the same as being happy. Life doesn’t always follow our plans. Lately, my world has felt like a storm. Between the deaths of five people, my son’s transition after prison, and my sister’s diagnosis with breast cancer, the ground has felt very shaky. I’ve learned that when the world is chaotic, I can’t control what happens outside. Instead, I am continuing on my journey as the “architect” of my own heart.

When things feel overwhelming, we often find ourselves in a knot of Thoughts, Emotions, and Actions (T.E.A.). Our thoughts try to anticipate the “what-ifs,” emotions feel heavy, and actions become frantic as we try to fix things we cannot control. Being an architect isn’t about stopping the storm. It’s about building a strong, safe house inside ourselves so we can stay standing while the wind blows.

I can’t change a medical diagnosis or a legal situation; however, I can choose how I show up for myself and the people I love.

Trusting isn’t about knowing exactly how things will turn out. It’s about knowing that I have the strength to handle whatever happens next. It’s about being kind to myself, setting boundaries that protect my heart, and finding peace in the middle of the mess.

It is why I wrote my 4-week course.  If you are going through a hard season and feel like you’re losing your footing, I want to help. My T.E.A. Course is a place to learn to untangle our thoughts, emotions, and actions to find your calm again. I’d love for you to join the healing journey.

It’s that time of year to set New Year’s resolutions. Believe it or not, this tradition began over 4000 years ago with the ancient Babylonians. They made promises to their gods during the Akitu festival, their New Year. Why am I telling you this?

As we enter 2026, after multiple years of a world that feels more divided and contentious than ever, there’s never been a better time to pivot.  A few years ago, I personally stopped making resolutions as I always broke them by the end of January. I focus on a word to carry me through the year..and this year my word is PIVOT. Here’s why

Think back to this past year when I shared the importance of building your community. I then made some significant changes in my career and personal life.  As you can see, it laid the groundwork for choosing PIVOT for 2026. (The series ran from June through September. Feel free to click here to review how I was able to do this.)

So, what is PIVOT?

PIVOT is an intentional shift with a purpose. It doesn’t require giving up your goals. It means adjusting your path…letting go of what is not serving you, like I did this year.  It is filled with hope, courage, and reinvention.

This is where the importance of building a positive community comes in. When you prepare for a shift, you are filled with anticipation and relief. You may also feel uncertain – which can be frightening. This is where your community comes in. Look at the people around you. Look at your path.

Take some time to think about what you want your life to look like. This will not be easy peasy…trust me, I know from personal experience.  It’s what led me to become a life coach.

So please, don’t hesitate to contact me if you need an hour to brainstorm about what’s tugging at you to make a shift. If you’re not sure what it is, we can explore together what you want to accomplish.

Then there’s my T.E.A. course. The next course starts in January.  It’s composed of four sessions, designed to help you dig deeper. Here, you will learn how to set healthy boundaries and find more joy in your everyday life.

There’s no better time than now to PIVOT!!
