Give yourself the gift of health
No matter where you stand on politics these days, you can’t help but be concerned about the status of our national health care. No, this is not a political blog! In fact, it’s probably the most personal one I have ever written, and it’s about skin cancer. Once again, I’ll share my personal experience to demonstrate how important good health is to each and every one of us.

First, I must confess that back in 2021, I had what seemed to be a small blemish on my face. I went to the dermatologist for a routine check. He was concerned and did a biopsy, which came back as cancer and required MOHS surgery. This served as a warning to follow up with a checkup every year. However, like so many of us, I didn’t do it.
Then this past October, Scott developed an infection that also required a dermatologist. Since he was going, I decided to get checked out as well. By this time, I had a spot on the side of my neck that I pointed out to the doctor. Not only did he determine that this needed a biopsy, he also detected another spot on my face (right next to the one from 2021) that required attention as well.
The diagnosis? I had basal cell cancer in both spots, and they had to be removed. Since they were spaced too far apart, they could not be done simultaneously. I needed to get two treatments, scheduled a week apart. My first appointment started at 8:30 in the morning. It took five scrapings and seven hours to complete. The second one only took three scrapings and five hours. This was more time than I had anticipated. Nor could I foresee what recovery would be like.
Next month, I will share that process plus a few other medical things that happened within days of that!! Hopefully, the pain I experienced will convince you to prevent what I went through. In the meantime, if you’re nervous about going, please contact me to chat. You do have control over this. You simply must take it, and I can help.
