Can We Trust Even When Life Feels Scary?

I used to think that if I planned well enough, I could keep my life safe and steady. I thought being in control was the same as being happy. Life doesn’t always follow our plans. Lately, my world has felt like a storm. Between the deaths of five people, my son’s transition after prison, and my sister’s diagnosis with breast cancer, the ground has felt very shaky. I’ve learned that when the world is chaotic, I can’t control what happens outside. Instead, I am continuing on my journey as the “architect” of my own heart.

When things feel overwhelming, we often find ourselves in a knot of Thoughts, Emotions, and Actions (T.E.A.). Our thoughts try to anticipate the “what-ifs,” emotions feel heavy, and actions become frantic as we try to fix things we cannot control. Being an architect isn’t about stopping the storm. It’s about building a strong, safe house inside ourselves so we can stay standing while the wind blows.

I can’t change a medical diagnosis or a legal situation; however, I can choose how I show up for myself and the people I love.

Trusting isn’t about knowing exactly how things will turn out. It’s about knowing that I have the strength to handle whatever happens next. It’s about being kind to myself, setting boundaries that protect my heart, and finding peace in the middle of the mess.

It is why I wrote my 4-week course.  If you are going through a hard season and feel like you’re losing your footing, I want to help. My T.E.A. Course is a place to learn to untangle our thoughts, emotions, and actions to find your calm again. I’d love for you to join the healing journey.

If someone asked you to describe the effect of the pandemic in one or two sentences, what would you say? Chances are it would include something like how hard it was, or that it was an unhappy time for so many people.  While all that may be true, let’s look at the blessings that also came out of it. I’m talking about a huge shift that could be viewed as a positive development which continues to grow.

In the last few years, there’s been a dramatic rise of startup businesses – currently called the “gig economy.” Gig economy is defined by people working on short-term contracts or freelancing instead of a permanent job. As temporary work with greater flexibility, this allows people to be creative and take charge of their finances – giving them more freedom to decide what to do with their lives.
Here’s what the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) noted earlier…

“Despite a health catastrophe and one of the worst economic downturns in modern history, startup business activity grew in the United States last year—business startups grew from 3.5 million in 2019 to 4.4 million in 2020, a 24 percent increase…”’

And then there’s inflation. No matter who you are or how you live, everyday expenses are higher which creates fertile ground to make changes.

So where am I going with this?

When I started selling Avon, our biggest competitors were companies who sold similar products. Now our competitors are companies that help define the gig economy. For example, drivers like Uber and Lyft; home maintenance businesses like house painting; and education in the form of personal tutoring. For some, this is a full-time occupation. For others, it’s a part-time ‘gig’ to supplement daily expenses.

Not all Avon reps are full-time like me. I have a team of people where each person is unique. One of the reasons I promote Avon is because of the incredible flexibility each and every rep has. Last year I shared how you could sign up as a rep with no starting costs. I am happy to tell you it is going so well that the offer is still good. And with Christmas almost upon us, you can do your Christmas shopping at a discount and start your new business at the same time!!

Speaking of Christmas, I have an exciting new product that could be the perfect gift for someone who has everything! We have catalogs available now so contact me here, or call or text me at 480-684-2866 to get started.

P.S.  Until the end of this year, I will share more information about how to participate in this new economy no matter what side gig you’re interested in.  One important take away from this blog is this…
…if you want to live financially free and take control of how you want to live, it is critical to choose something you WANT to do and can BELIEVE in.   I know this because of my personal experience and I am HERE to toss around any ideas you’d like to explore.
