The Story Behind the Name

When I started this Avon journey in 2006, I was Mary Halsey. In 2013, I became Mary Kominska after finally saying “yes” to my husband, Scott. (Fun fact: He actually proposed in 1987, and I said no! Proof that some of the best things in life—and business—take time and the right timing.)

The Rebrand: Mary K with Avon

I am celebrating two decades of beauty, I’m leaning into the name I was born to have. I’m officially rebranding as Mary K with Avon.

I’m the “Mary” you’ve trusted for 20 years, simply with a fresh vision and that signature Avon glow. This “pivot” is about honoring my history while stepping boldly into the future.

Why Pivot Now?

After 20 years, I’ve learned that if you aren’t growing, you’re standing still. 

My 2026 Pivot means:

Two weeks ago my blog was about how my business has changed and grown. Last week featured Avon’s “Virtual Try-on” tool to help you pick out products that bring out your best. The combination of these blogs made me think about my career with Avon, and why we are such a good match.

 Here’s what I mean.

If you’ve read my story, you’ll remember that I started my Avon business 15 years ago because I needed the money. I chose Avon based on good products and 120 years in the business at that time. But my main motive was to bring in additional funds to support my family.

I love the VirtualTry-on tool for the convenience. You can use it from your home any time of the day or evening (as opposed to department store hours). It also saves time and money because it eliminates purchasing products that aren’t quite right. And there’s another feature.

It’s safe to use, especially during this pandemic. Before Covid, I didn’t consult with department store cosmetic reps. I don’t know if face-to-face consultations are currently being offered…and how do you work around a mask? (If anyone has information about this, please let me know here.)

The Virtual Try-on tool is a good example of where Avon finds a way to see how lipsticks, blushes, foundations (and more) affect your look (with a full face option coming soon)…no matter what’s going on in the world. That alone is enough to try it out. But like my business, I think Avon changes and grows so we can show our outside best any time. That leads to grateful clients!
