Can We Trust Even When Life Feels Scary?

I used to think that if I planned well enough, I could keep my life safe and steady. I thought being in control was the same as being happy. Life doesn’t always follow our plans. Lately, my world has felt like a storm. Between the deaths of five people, my son’s transition after prison, and my sister’s diagnosis with breast cancer, the ground has felt very shaky. I’ve learned that when the world is chaotic, I can’t control what happens outside. Instead, I am continuing on my journey as the “architect” of my own heart.

When things feel overwhelming, we often find ourselves in a knot of Thoughts, Emotions, and Actions (T.E.A.). Our thoughts try to anticipate the “what-ifs,” emotions feel heavy, and actions become frantic as we try to fix things we cannot control. Being an architect isn’t about stopping the storm. It’s about building a strong, safe house inside ourselves so we can stay standing while the wind blows.

I can’t change a medical diagnosis or a legal situation; however, I can choose how I show up for myself and the people I love.

Trusting isn’t about knowing exactly how things will turn out. It’s about knowing that I have the strength to handle whatever happens next. It’s about being kind to myself, setting boundaries that protect my heart, and finding peace in the middle of the mess.

It is why I wrote my 4-week course.  If you are going through a hard season and feel like you’re losing your footing, I want to help. My T.E.A. Course is a place to learn to untangle our thoughts, emotions, and actions to find your calm again. I’d love for you to join the healing journey.

Today I’m wrapping up my second full year of blogging. When I started this two years ago, there is no way I could have imagined what it takes to maintain a flow of ideas!  I would love to hear your thoughts about what I’ve written over the last 24 months. Yes I know, it’s the busiest time of the year, but if you can spare a few moments, I’m always interested in listening to you.

If you’ll recall, I began this year with how I built my Avon business. I hope these actions became tools to help you develop the Best and Beautiful You that you were created to be.

In April I shared how some unexpected events created “hiccups” in my progress – and by June, life turned into a roller coaster ride. Even after hitting so many ups and downs, the turnaround in September didn’t magically solve everything. Understand that even when life is going well, there can also be pain…and pain has the potential to make us stronger.

Then in the past two months, I shared valuable insights I gained from the Global Leadership Summit about our will to be creative. We can’t help it. It’s in our DNA and this is worth repeating, “We all have a star where we belong and will shine.”

Again, give yourself permission to make mistakes. The goal is to work towards progress, not perfection. It’s one thing to have ideas. What’s more important is to act on them. Years ago a mentor said to me, “You are full of great ideas Mary. When are you going to put them into action?” Thanks to that hard-loving truth – I now tell you what I have done, not what I’m going to do.

This year also included information on Avon products to enhance the ‘outside’ Best and Beautiful You. In my experience, when we look better on the outside, it supports how we feel inside. I can only hope you took advantage of the Christmas catalogs to treat yourself!

As we approach the end of 2022, my goal was to share what I experienced to help you find your path. We all have choices, so choose wisely. Remember, everything we do starts in our thoughts.
And what about 2023?

Years ago I stopped setting resolutions.  (We know how well those work…NOT!) Since then, I started taking a word to guide each year. This brings me to my word for 2023 – “Agape.”

Agape is the highest form of love, the fatherly love of God for humans. As a result of accepting His love, we make small, daily choices to put others’ interests above our own. Next year I will continue to share what I learn, and how I incorporate these insights into my life.

For now, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a great start to the New Year!

P.S. As life continues to evolve, so will my blogging schedule. I am changing to one blog a month starting in January. Please feel free to share any and all of my blogs with your family and friends!!!
